The Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Belfast is Gregory S. Burton.
Prior to taking up his current position as the U.S. Consul General in Belfast, Mr. Burton was the Senior Deputy Coordinating Director for Development and Economic Affairs in the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. He also as served as Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 2009 until 2011.
In 2008 Mr. Burton earned an M.S. in National Security from the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. He also served from 2006 to 2007 with the Canadian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Mr. Burton was the Economic and Senior Commercial Officer in the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 2002 to 2006. He has also served in U.S. Embassies in Belgrade and Caracas. In addition to these overseas assignments, Mr. Burton served in three positions in the Department of State in Washington, D.C.
Prior to entering the Foreign Service, Mr. Burton served for four years as an officer in the U.S. Army. He was born and raised in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania with a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish. He also received an M.A. in Economics from New York’s Fordham University. He is married to Nana Lee Felding.
