Administrative Processing

Administrative Processing at the U.S. Consulate Belfast

Some cases require additional administrative processing. If your application was refused under 221(g) and you received the "Administrative Processing" handout at the interview, you can check the status of your case on-line. The case status report will be updated periodically. The review of your application may take 90 days to complete. In some cases, processing can take six months or longer, so if your case is not yet listed, please check back periodically for the latest information.

How to read the case status report

Find your Batch No. in the case status report and note the case Status. There are only four case status remarks: Pending; Email Sent (Date); Send Passport (PPT) and Processed. Each remark is explained below and instructions are given where applicable.

Pending:  Your application is still undergoing administrative processing.  Please continue to check here for further updates.

Send Passport (PPT): The administrative processing of your case has been completed and, as you did not leave your passport at the Consulate, you need to submit your passport for visa issuance.  You should send it by Royal Mail Special Delivery to Visa Section, U.S. Consulate General, Danesfort House, 223 Stranmillis Road, Belfast, BT9 5GR.  You will also need to provide a prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope for the return of your passport if you have not already done so.

Email Sent:  We have sent an email to the email address you provided on your visa application form requesting additional information or documents, or providing you with additional information on the status of your case.  Please check your emails.

Processed: The administrative processing of your case has been completed, your application has been processed to conclusion, and your passport has been returned to you by mail in the Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope you provided.  You can check the delivery status using the special delivery number at www.royalmail.comPlease note: "processed to conclusion" means that your visa has been issued or denied depending on the outcome of the administrative processing.  For this reason, please do not purchase tickets or make final travel plans until you have received your documents in the mail and confirmed that your visa application has been successful.

Cases processed prior to January 1, 2011

We regret that there is no mechanism for checking the status of a nonimmigrant visa application submitted prior to January 1, 2011. If your application has been pending more than 90 days, you may call the Operator Assisted Information Service for further information.
